Brakes!

Once in a physics class, the teacher asked the students why the brake system was installed in a vehicle.  The students came up with many different answers.  One said it was to stop the vehicle; another said it was to make it go slow, and another said it was to avoid collisions and accidents!  But the best answer was to enable you to drive faster!  Just think about it for a moment.  When I read this, an incident came to my mind.  When I was working in HTL Limited, one evening when I left for home, the brakes failed, though not wholly.  By the time I figured out the issue, I was out on the road and did not know whether I should abandon the car on the road and go home or not.  Those were days before the advent of mobiles, and so helplessly, I continued driving slowly using lower gears and praying fervently, 'Lord, take me home safely,' I mean, home in Anna Nagar!  Despite my foolish decision, the Lord protected me that day!  Yes, the brakes help you to drive faster.  It is because of brakes we can dare to!

At various points in life, we find God setting up brakes, too.  Sometimes brakes are applied by our parents, spouses, or bosses.  We may want to take up some assignments, but they may be denied to us.  Sometimes brakes are applied by our situation or a health issue.  Sometimes our financial situation may be the brake.  Whatever it may be due to, the result is that we could not do or get what we wanted.  The Lord applied brakes when Paul wanted to go to Damascus to persecute the Christians.   God applied brakes when Paul wanted to evangelize Asia.  It would have been hard to accept then, but if we look back, we can appreciate God's mighty hand at work.  When we get angry, psychologists advise us to count to ten, and it works as a break and stops us from saying unkind things!  I am grateful for the way God has led me thus far.  Without brakes, I could have skidded, lost direction, and ended up in miry clay.  I am deeply grateful for all my priceless breaks allowed by God to strengthen me, teach me, and direct me to make me what I am today.

My friend, if you are on a brake, take heart.  Without them, you would not be where you are today.  Always see the bright side in everything; every cloud has a silver lining!  God guides and directs us through the brakes!
