Do not be deceived!

Nov 21, 2017 By Hephzibah Stephen

The Bible has many phrases that simply catch our attention and one such is the call for us not to be deceived!

Sometimes we tell ourselves, that no one could have done anything better or different in that particular situation or that we did our best even though we did not. Sometimes we tell ourselves that we are not at fault even though we are. We tend to keep telling ourselves somethings over and over again and then they kind of grow in on us and we tend to believe them like the truth. The Bible says in Gal 6:7, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows “.

Sometimes when we look at the house we live in or the job we hold, we tend to think that they are all the result of our hard work. The Bible says in James 1:16,17, “Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows”.

Sometimes because we go regularly to church, give liberally to the poor and participate in evangelical activities, we tend to think we are perfect and better than so many others. If we harbor hatred toward our brother or sister or have an unloving, unforgiving attitude toward those whom God has placed in our lives, then we are not obeying the Word of God. If we do not obey the Word, then all our external activities will not be of any use for the Lord sees only our heart and our intentions. The Bible says in James 1:22-24, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”

My friend, do not be deceived by just activities.

Today let us take time to analyze our thoughts, our priorities and our real intentions behind our activities and bring them under the Cross of Christ. Let us decide to obey the Word completely so that we will be found worthy of the blessings we long so much for!
