El Roi, The God Who Sees!
Epiphany refers to the revelation of God; of Jesus coming to us so that we can see Him and surrender ourselves to Him! But God sees us at all times for the Bible says in 2 Chronicles 16:9, "For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him."
When Abraham sent Hagar and Ishmael away with just a little bread and a skin of water, she departed and wandered in the Wilderness of Beersheba. There she sat down at a distance from Ishmael not wanting to see the boy die. Sitting alone in that wilderness she lifted her voice and wept. And the Bible says that God saw her (Gen 21:17). Then the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and told her not to fear, for God had heard the voice of the lad where he was and had seen her tears! When the children of Israel groaned because of the bondage in Egypt, the Bible says that their cry came up to God (Ex 2:23,24).
When we are in the midst of physical trials and emotional challenges, we cry. Even when tears are not running down our cheeks, our hearts cry out. Sometimes we do not even know what the right response should be in our given situation and we are unable also to pray. No one will understand what we are going through. We cannot share all our feelings with even those who are close to us. Our way seems hidden from the Lord. But the good news is that God sees us where we are in our life situation. He understands our tears! That is what He is telling us today. There is no pain that God does not see for the Bible says in Hebrew 4: 13, "And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account."
My friend, be encouraged knowing that we have a God who sees us in our very life situation. God sees our tears; God sees our heart. God is telling us not to fear for He has promised to provide a way out. In this New Year, let us decide to trust God knowing that He sees our tears and answers us!
