Experiencing God Today
Henry T. Blackaby in his book ‘Experiencing God’ says that during Bible times, people came to know God through specific experiences. Abraham was called to sacrifice Isaac on Mount Moriah. When the ram for the sacrifice was provided providentially, he came to experience God as a “Provider”. Hagar had given up on life in the desert of Beersheba. But when God opened her eyes, she saw a well of water. Hagar called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, “Have I also here seen Him who sees me?” Moses at the Red sea was not intimidated by the situation but experienced God as the ‘Deliverer’.
In the same way, we too experience God in many ways in our own lives.
I have experienced God as my redeemer; as the one who came seeking for me! I have experienced God as a healer not only of physical ailments but also of relationships. God in His infinite mercy has healed every relationship around me and has opened my eyes to see the power of God at work around me. I have experienced God as ‘transformer’ of people. It has taught me about His faithfulness. There have been delays but in His time, He has made everything beautiful. All I had to do was to trust Him.
Every one of us has had our share of bondage experiences and wilderness years! But through it all God has really been revealing Himself to us. Have we been blind to the revelation? Have we been just looking at the problems instead of the power that transforms the situations?
Every time we experience the power of God, a new dimension is revealed to us. That is why the Bible says, “taste and see that the Lord is good’ (Ps 34:8). Tasting is always done little by little. God does not reveal Himself fully at one instance. If He does that, we may not be able to bear it or even comprehend Him. That is why He chooses to reveal Himself to us little by little, through our everyday experiences so that one day we will be ready to see Him face to face.
My friend, when you walk through troubles, take heart! God is going to reveal Himself to you in a whole new way!
