Fear not!

Dec 05, 2017 By Hephzibah Stephen

Fear is a very crippling emotion. Some of us are afraid of darkness. Some of us are afraid of public speaking. My mother was afraid of travelling alone. She always had to have a travelling companion, even to go to Tirunelveli! Some of us are so afraid of the future that we run to ‘prophets’ seeking guidance! Some of us are overwhelmed with the fear of the present day’s troubles. I sometimes feel that if the Lord would come soon, then I will have nothing to fear!

Fear stops us from achieving our best!

People of the Bible when they were confronted by Angels or God, the first emotion was one of fear. But God’s response has always been the same: “Fear not.” The angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven and said, “Fear not”(Gen 21:17). The message that came through the Prophet Isaiah again and again to the remnant was, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God” (Is.41:10). The message to the shepherds on that first Christmas morn was, “Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.” (Luke 2:10).

As believers, once we are washed by His blood, the Bible says our sins are forgiven. God not only wipes it out from our account but He also forgets it. Our past sins need not worry us. For the present, God is our helper and with his help, we can run through a troop and jump over a wall!

Bill and Gloria Gaither say it all when they sing this beautiful song:

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow
Because He lives, all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living, just because He lives!

My friend, our future is in God’s hands. Whatever the future may hold, the Lord is in control. The devil cannot intimidate us since we have been washed clean by His blood. Today, to each one of us the Lord says, “Fear not” for the Lord has promised to be with us as ‘Emmanuel’. Let nothing dismay you. The Lord will go before us and fight our battles and lead us to victory!
