Garbage in, Garbage out!
The advent of computers has changed many things. It has changed the way we think; it has changed the way we live, and of course, it sure has changed the way we speak! The idiom of the era gone by was, 'you reap what you sow'! The computers have introduced us to a new phrase, 'garbage in, garbage out'! Computers can do anything and everything, and that too flawlessly. But if you feed in garbage, you will only get garbage out! Our minds are also like that. If we fill our minds with filth and garbage, we will end up deep in sin before we even know it! It always starts with a single look like it did with Eve!
The book of Judges closes with the summary statement that everyone did what they thought was right in their mind. Theologians say that even though the last few chapters are appended to the end of the book, chronologically, they reflect the period of the Judges. Many times, what is right in the eyes of God is very different from what is 'right' in our eyes! When a person lets himself or herself be attracted by sin, they will find many excuses to continue in sin. We often lie to ourselves to ease the discomfort of our own sinful life choices. In due course, this will numb the conscience, and the very sinful act will appear 'right' our own eyes! When we abandon God's Word and live by our own rules, we become our gods, and there is no limit to how low we can sink!
Jesus warned us of the danger of trying to live apart from God. John 15:4 says, "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me." This raises the question of what Jesus means when He says, "abide in Me." The answer is in verse 10. "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love"(John 15:10). The only way we can live out our life doing things God's way is to 'know' His commandments and 'keep' them!
My friend, what is right according to God, is not hidden somewhere but is clearly written in the Bible. Let us read the Word and meditate upon it day and night so that it will illuminate our paths and thus our lives too!
