Healing for the Nation!
Politics is a popular conversation topic everywhere. It could be Indian politics or American politics, that does not matter. Usually, people argue with their heart and soul, and even some families become divided in their allegiance! It is common in such arguments to point to the top and lay all the maladies at their feet. We say the country has gone to dogs because of the person at the top! Blaming somebody else for all the chaos is very natural for us! Leadership is essential, and I do not deny that fact! The Bible clearly says that all authority is of God. Paul says that everyone should be subject to the governing authorities, “for there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God (Romans 13:1).” Proverbs 29:2 says, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan.”
The Bible gives us a remedy for a sick nation.
For seven years, Solomon had been building the Temple on Mount Moriah. When the time came to dedicate the Temple, Solomon gathered the people together, knelt on a small platform, lifted his hands toward heaven, and prayed. The Lord appeared to him at night and told Solomon what can heal a sick nation. The Lord said, “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14).” If you carefully look at the above verse, the Lord does not say the leader has to change. The Lord is talking about His people, you and me! We are called not only to humble ourselves but turn from our wicked ways and then seek His face. Then God will hear our prayer, forgive our sins, and heal our land.
My friend, before we blame the people in power for the state of our country, let us look within. As we celebrate the 71st Republic Day of our great Nation, let us confess our sins and then pray “… for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence (1 Timothy 2:2).” Let us pray for our nation, for it is the responsibility of every believer!
