His Eyes …
Bible Reading: Matthew 10:27-31
As I was meditating upon the Cross this season, what touched my heart were His eyes!
Jesus was nailed to the Cross. His hands and feet were pinned to the Cross. But Jesus was able to ‘look’ at the people who had gathered around the Cross! He looked at the people and interceded for their forgiveness. He looked at the thief and said that he would be in paradise along with Himself. He looked at His mother and provided for her. He looked at John and gave him the task of caring for His mother!
This brought to my mind the beautiful song written by Civilla Durfee Martin, a Canadian-American hymn and gospel songwriter. She penned these lyrics after she was moved by the resilient faith of a bedridden friend in 1905.
The song goes as follows:
Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He:
His eye is on the Sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the Sparrow, and I know He watches me.
The Bible says even the Sparrow does not fall to the ground apart from our Father’s will! The Bible assures us that we are way more precious to the Lord than the little Sparrows. The Bible says, “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him” (2 Chronicles 16:9).
Jesus, who saw Mary’s grief, is looking at you and me today. He is watching over us. The Lord will take care of us even in our trials. He will provide our every need just as He provided for Mary that day. We have nothing to fear because we are precious in the sight of God. So precious that Jesus came down to shed His own blood for our redemption!
My friend, are you overwhelmed by your predicament in life? Is it a sickness or the loss of a loved one? Do not fear. God is watching over you with His eyes. The Lord who saw Hager suffering in the wilderness is seeing you. Nothing can be hidden from His sight, and the Lord will send help!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for Your assurance today. Sometimes I am so overwhelmed and downcast. Help me, Lord, to rise above my situation and enjoy the rest only You can give. Amen.
