His hands, His feet…

May 22, 2018 By Hephzibah Stephen

When God created Man, the Bible says that He created us in His image! But God is Spirit (John 4:24) and hence there is no form or shape! Then what is this image or likeness the Bible is talking about? God created each one of us in His moral likeness. That is to say that God created us with a capacity to love, forgive, and to have compassion just like Him!

Jesus touched the leper; welcomed women and children; dined with the sinners; washed the disciples' feet; and went about ‘doing good'. Jesus had compassion on those who were suffering. Jesus was moved by the grief of the widow of Nain who had lost her son; Jesus wept at the death of Lazarus. He was in the ministry of reconciliation and restoration!

If we are sensitive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit, we can see the broken and hurt people around us. They may have a smile on their faces but their hearts are broken! If we can spare the time to sit with them and talk to them, it will make a big difference in their lives. Hurting people need a shoulder to cry on to unburden their soul. But many times, we are too busy, rushing from one activity to another, to notice a broken heart!

Awaiting a medical investigation, sitting all alone at home, I was overwhelmed with anxiety. I was unable to pray or even feel the presence of the Lord. Suddenly the mobile rang and a friend of mine was on the line. When she heard what I had to say, she cut the line and in the next five minutes, she appeared at the doorway. Her prayer that day meant a lot to me!

If we look for the risen Jesus in all His resurrected glory, we may never find Him. If we expect a voice from heaven or some magical sign, we may never find it. If we expect an angel to come and encourage us, we may never encounter one. But, it is our duty as God's own representatives to be that ‘angel' in sharing the love of Christ in this fallen world.

My friend, we have been made in His image with abilities to love, encourage, help, guide and intercede for the people around us. My prayer today for each one of us is that we would be His hands and feet in accomplishing that purpose!
