Holy unto the Lord!

While the central theme of the book of Genesis is creation and new beginnings, the book of Exodus is all about redemption and the creation of the nation of Israel. Soon after redeeming the people of Israel from Egypt, God gave them the ten commandments and also social laws. The God of Israel delighted to live among His people and so He gave detailed instructions about the Tabernacle and the garments of priesthood. The Bible also describes meticulously the process by which Aaron and his sons were consecrated (Ex.29). One young bull and two rams were set apart for this ceremony. Verse 29 says that they should kill the second ram and take some of its blood and put it on the tip of the right ear of Aaron and the tip of the right ear of his sons, on the thumb of their right hand and the big toe of their right foot.

It is very interesting to note the specific areas where the blood was to be applied to consecrate them. It was not sprinkled ‘on' them but specifically applied to three places. Commentators say that those specific instructions carried a specific meaning. Anointing the ear represented listening to the Word of God, anointing of the thumb meant setting our will to obey the Word of God and anointing the big toe represented walking with the Lord! A life of consecration is then listening to the Word, obeying the Word and walking in God's way! This must be true of the life of every believer who is redeemed by the blood of Jesus!

The Bible says in 1 Peter 2:9 that we are a "chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." We are the priests and are set apart as holy unto the Lord so that we can proclaim the praises of our Redeemer! But without a separated walk and personal holiness, we cannot be true ambassadors of Christ for our lives always speak louder than words!

My friend, what is it that is tarnishing your consecration? Confess it now for the Bible says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."(John 1:9)
