Jesus is coming soon!
God has given us one more chance to celebrate ‘the season of advent’ and look forward to Christmas again this year!
The word “Advent” is derived from a Latin word, meaning “coming.” When the early Christians linked ‘Advent’ to the coming of Christ, the ‘coming’ they had in mind was not Christ’s first coming in the manger in Bethlehem, but His second coming in the clouds as the judge of the world! It was not until the Middle Ages that the Advent season was explicitly linked to Christ’s first coming at Christmas. The Advent season focuses on expectation and it serves as an anticipation of Christ’s birth and lasts for four Sundays leading up to Christmas.
The first coming of Jesus was the fulfillment of many prophecies. There are many prophecies regarding His second coming too, and they will also be fulfilled just as He has said.
The Bible says in Luke 12:40,”Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” Jesus taught the disciples about His second coming using two parables and each one teaches us one important lesson. The two parables are the Parable of the ten virgins (Mt.25:1-13) and the parable of the talents (Mt. 25:14-30).
The Parable of the ten virgins teaches us to be ready at all times for His second coming will be at an unexpected hour. The Parable of Talents teaches us that until His return, we have to be busy with His business. There is no use looking for the signs in the sky or running to preachers who talk about the signs! We neither know the time of His coming nor the time of our home-call. So we have to be ready, at all times!
How can we be ready? Where forgiveness is needed forgive; where restoration is needed restore; where repentance is needed repent and where there is hate, sow love. Allow the Spirit of God to work in our hearts so that we can correct ourselves. We are not called to sit idle and wait for His return. We have to be busy with the great commission of Jesus until His return. Then we can be truly ready to meet our Saviour any day!
My friend, as we look forward to this season of Christmas, let us prepare ourselves in every way for His second coming, for He is surely coming soon!
