Me and my God!
An abusive childhood, a loveless marriage, a debilitating disease, a traumatic sickness, or a financial loss, they all need a double portion of God's grace. We have no control over such situations in life. Some of it is allowed by God and sometimes some things are the result of our foolish choices or the result of our sin. Whatever be the reason, we cannot run away from it. We have no option but to live through it and endure it until the Lord Himself intervenes to change that situation. That is why God's unmeasurable grace is so very important!
Such trying situations truly shape us to be who we become in life. Some turn away from God and in so doing and lose hope and the will to live. But when we turn to God, God in His mercy sustains us; protects us; fights for us, and hides us under His wings! Whenever I had to go through trying situations, I always imagined a cube around me, a protection from the outside world and its abuse. Inside the cube, it was always ‘me and my God'. God was true to all His promises and sustained me with His love. He was truly my hiding place (Psalm 32:7). He protected me from complete breakdown and surrounded me with songs of deliverance.
We see David's anguish in Psalm 56. It was his prayer for relief from his tormentors. He says, "Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up; fighting all day he oppresses me. My enemies would hound me all day, for there are many who fight against me, O Most High. Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You".
My friend, whatever be the trial you may be going through, my prayer for you today is that it should not turn you away from God. While we cannot change the situations, God gives us unmeasurable grace and courage to live through it.
Michael Ledner wrote the song "You Are My Hiding Place" when he was going through a painful period in his life, a period of separation from his wife and it speaks volumes of God's unfailing love.
You are my hiding place; You always fill my heart With songs of deliverance. Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.
