More than we can ask or think…
My friend had shared the poem 'Drinking from the saucer' by John Paul Moore in WhatsApp. It captured my heart in a nutshell!
As I go along my journey
I'm reaping better than I've sowed;
I'm drinking from the saucer
'Cause my cup has overflowed.
It brought to my mind the scene of Jacob receiving the news about Joseph from his sons. Jacob must have been very anxious for the return of his sons since they had taken Benjamin with them. We read of this incident in Genesis chapters 42-46. There was no means of communication in those days. Jacob must have been very anxious and worried about the welfare of his sons. Many questions must have been swirling around his heart as he sat watching the horizon! The Bible says that "Jacob's heart stood still" (Gen 45:26) when he heard from the brothers that Joseph, his son was alive and that he was the governor over all the land of Egypt. Jacob found it hard to believe. At his old age, Jacob did not have the strength to withstand another disappointment. When he heard of all the details and Joseph's own words, Jacob revived. He said, "It is enough Joseph my son is still alive. I will go and see him before I die"(v28). That is all he wanted.
Many years later when Jacob was about to die we read of him saying, "I had not thought to see your face: but in fact, God has also shown me your offspring"(Gen 48:11)". All that Jacob wanted was to see Joseph and then die! But God blessed Jacob and enabled him to see even Joseph's sons! The Bible says in Ephesians 3:20 that we have a God "… who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us."As I look back on my life journey, in many ways, God has blessed me more than I can even ask or think. My heart is overflowing with gratitude, and I can say 'I am drinking from the saucer'!
My friend, do not be dismayed by the situations facing you today. Look back and remember with gratitude what the Lord has done for you in the past. We have a God who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or even think. Trust His timing!
