Praying for the Mighty!

India is an ancient land and has had many amazing kings.  The great Chola king, 'Manu Needhi' Cholan was known for the execution of justice.  He is known to have executed his son to provide justice to a cow!  King Paari, who ruled the Parambu nādu and surrounding region, was a known philanthropist.  He is known to have given his golden chariot to the wild jasmine creeper that had entwined itself around the wheel of his chariot. These kings had the welfare of their subjects and justice as the focus of their reign!  Those were the golden years!  If you see the things that are happening around us today, it does not resemble India at all. Now there is no justice even in the judiciary. People in power harass innocent citizens.  Those who have to take care of law and order themselves are lawless.  Even the earmarked money for the poor is stolen by the authorities and those in power. It is nothing but stealing from the poor!

What does the Bible teach us at a time like this?

The Bible says, "… God is the Judge: He puts down one and exalts another" (Psalm 75:7). The Bible teaches us that there is no authority except from God, and God alone has appointed the leaders that exist.  So we are called submit to Government and the governing authorities. The Bible also teaches us that whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who oppose will bring judgment on themselves (Rom 13:1-3).  Paul wrote to Titus, asking him to remind those he was living among to be subject to rulers and authorities (Titus 3:1-2).  We must see the broader attack on authority as a direct Satanic strategy to destroy our society and millions of individual lives. Satan is accomplishing this with two main approaches.  First, Satan corrupts authority, and second, he promotes the rejection of authority.  This idea of submission to authority is so important to God that they are part of His very being. The Bible says in 1 Samuel 15:23 that rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.  We have to pray and bind the powers of darkness that corrupt the authorities and the Government!

My friend, God is the judge, and God will judge!  We have to pray for the high and mighty "that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence" (1Ti 2:2).
