Rushing through Life
Bible Reading: Isaiah 40:26-31
I remember a season in my life when I used to drive fast from Anna Nagar to Guindy, reaching the office in just sixteen minutes flat. When you drive like that, you have no time to look around and watch the daily scenes passing by on your way. But when I came to my senses, I realized that rash driving was dangerous—not only for me but also for others on the road. From that day onward, I completely stopped rash driving.
Life today moves at a frightening speed. People rush from one task to another, always anxious to achieve more and earn more. People are always in a hurry—hurrying to build careers, gain recognition, accumulate wealth, and accomplish great things. But rushing through life is a waste. Life is a journey, and the journey has to be enjoyed just as much as reaching the destination. As we go through life, we have to enjoy our families, God’s presence, and the quiet joy of walking with the Lord and thank God with a grateful heart.
The Bible reminds us that God has a purpose for every one of our lives. Not only does He have a purpose, but He also has a plan and the power to fulfill it. But to discover God’s purpose, we must learn to slow down and spend time with Him. Purpose is not discovered in a hurry; it is discovered in prayer, meditation on God’s Word, and quiet waiting. That is why the Lord says in Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God.”
Mary understood this truth. While Martha was busy and distracted, Mary sat at Jesus’ feet and listened to Jesus. Therefore, let us not rush through life and miss its deeper blessings. Spend time with your children and grandchildren. Sit quietly and read God’s Word. Then, after listening to God, act in love. Remember what the Bible says, "But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31).
My friend, we do not know how long we have on this earth. Slow down and show love to those around you. Visit the old, encourage the sick, comfort the lonely, and bless those who are discouraged. A meaningful life is not measured by achievements but by walking closely with God and loving others well.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, teach me to slow down and walk in step with You. Help me not to rush through life and miss Your purpose. Give me a heart that listens, obeys, and lovingly serves others. Amen.
