Seeking God
Jeremiah 29:10-14
Jeremiah 29:13 is a beautiful verse. It says , "And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart". At this point, the people were in Babylon, being chastised by God. Still, God's offer was that the people would find Him if only they could seek Him with their whole heart! Moses had earlier spoken to the people about a time like this in Deuteronomy 4:30-31.
Half-hearted worship is no worship, and half-hearted service is no service at all. No one can seek God half-heartedly!
Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, had a twelve-year-old daughter who was at the point of death. He came to Jesus so that she could be healed. We do not know if Jairus was part of the group of Pharisees who plotted to destroy Jesus because Jesus had healed a man on the Sabbath (Mark 3:6). But now he was broken, and he sought Jesus.
The woman with the issue of blood was a woman ostracised by society because of her sickness. Under the law, she was considered unclean. She was of no use to her family, too, as she could neither cook nor clean. Her very presence in that crowd was outrageous. But now she sought to touch the hem of Jesus' garment in desperation!
There is a quality about the faith of these two that can edify us today.
It was not just positive thinking or hope. Their faith moved them out of their comfort zones into the presence of the Lord! They persistently sought Jesus. Their past sins or their current predicament did not stop them from seeking Jesus!
And that is the lesson for us today.
We believe in prayer and the promises in the Bible. We have the power of God available to us at all times. But the question is, do we seek Jesus with our whole being?
My friend, what is keeping you from seeking Christ with a whole heart? We cannot serve two or more masters with all our heart. Many who have rejected Jesus in the past are afraid to come to Him, thinking of rejection. Past sins make us believe that we are unworthy to come to Jesus. Remember, Jesus will never reject a desperate, repentant soul who seeks Him wholeheartedly.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for giving me hope today. Lord, forgive me and help me seek You with all my heart and all my being. Amen.
