Sitting at the feet of Jesus

We read about Jesus visiting the home of Martha and Mary in Luke 10:38-42.  The Bible says that Martha was distracted with much serving while her sister Mary sat at the feet of Jesus and heard His Word.   Mary's action disturbed Martha, but when she spoke to the Lord about this, Jesus answered her, saying, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her." We all know about this incident.  I always wondered about what Jesus meant when He said 'the good part which will not be taken away.'

We have all been like Martha doing many things- Bible studies, speaking assignments, corporate prayers, and various social commitments. None of it is wrong, but after all that, we feel so spent that we have no time to sit at the Lord's feet.  This lockdown has been a big blessing on a different note.  Since all external assignments got canceled, there is a lot of time sitting quietly, meditate on the Word, and pray.  As a couple, we have been having prayer sessions with different couples every day in the forenoon and the evening apart from one-on-one prayer sessions, made possible through technology. As husband and wife, we have been praying together every day.  As we spent time at the feet of the Lord every day, God brought to our minds even small things so that we could confess them to each other and God. God gave us the grace to set right things with people also.  This process has filled our hearts with much joy and peace.  Now I understand what Jesus meant when He spoke about 'the good part which will not be taken away.'  The spiritual blessings and the peace we have received cannot be taken away by the world, the devil or even our life-situation.

My friend,  I believe we must set aside a time to be quiet in His Presence even after the lockdown is lifted and reflect on our lives in the light of His Word and correct ourselves.  Only then we will be useful vessels for God. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Tim 3:16).
