The Devil’s Foothold!
The lock-down has been a time of refreshing for the soul! God has given us time to look within and come to terms with even what you may call 'small' sins. We think of some sins as 'small' and brush them under the carpet! But in the eyes of God, sin is sin. It is missing the mark as detailed in the Word of God. There is nothing ‘small’ about it. Sin in our life gives a foothold for the devil! Someone explained foothold with an example. Imagine a thief is chasing us. We run-up to our room and try to close the door, but the person sticks his shoe at the bottom end of the door, and so we are unable to close it. That part of his foot that prevents us from closing the door is called a 'foothold.' Footholds are very dangerous.
Unconfessed sins in a believer's life is a foothold for the devil. The Bible says in Proverbs 28:13, "He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy." Confess every transgression to God, and the Lord will blot them out with His blood!
Unforgiveness and bitterness give the devil footholds big enough to pull his body in. Matthew 6:14 says, "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Choose to forgive.
Unholy thoughts and desires give the devil a foothold. We are to guard our hearts diligently (Prov. 4:23), take every thought captive and make it obey Christ (2 Cor 10:5). Always think of things that will please God (Phil 4:8). Ungodly desires give the devil control over us! What we desire reveals what is in our hearts, and if we desire the wrong things, then we have to deal with our hearts. James 1:14 tells us that "each man is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed." Choose to think of what is Godly and pleasing to God.
My friend, let us ask God to show us where our problem lies. If it is sin or sinful desires or unforgiveness, let us go to the throne of grace and ask God to forgive us so that the devil's foothold in our life will be destroyed today and we can be blessed by God!
