The Family of God

Jan 15, 2025 By Hephzibah Stephen

Whenever we talk about Jesus paying a price to set us free, we use an analogy.  We talk about someone who is restrained and under bondage because of his debt when a person comes along, pays his debt, and sets him free!

When I sat and thought about it, a great truth struck me!

Just imagine if that person had only set him free, he would have been back on the street. With no place to go to, sooner or later, he is bound to get into trouble again.  Even though his debt was forgiven, there was no new life for him!

When Jesus paid the price to set us free, He did not stop there. Jesus adopted us into His family as His own sons and daughters, thus giving us all a new life and a new beginning!

The Lord says we shall be His sons and daughters in 2 Corinthians 6:18. God has adopted us as sons and daughters (Ephesians 1:4-5).  We have received a spirit of adoption as sons and daughters so that we can confidently cry out, “Abba! Father!” (Romans 8:15)

That is how Rahab and Ruth could figure in the genealogy of Jesus. That is how David could become the man after God’s own heart! When they came to accept the God of Israel as their God, they not only had their past wiped clean; they got a new identity and a place in the family of God!

Today, you and I have a standing in society because we are sons and daughters of the King of Kings!  Jesus has not only forgiven our sins, He has not only given us the assurance of eternal life after our time here on earth is over, but He has made us His sons and daughters, here and now.

As I think about it, I am overwhelmed by God’s gift of new life and a new beginning! I would be nothing if Jesus had not adopted me into His family!

My friend, if you have accepted Christ as your Savior, you have a great standing among your friends and family. No one can look down upon you, for you are the son or the daughter of the King!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for taking me into the family of God and for the new beginning You have given me. Lord, I am grateful. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.
