The Highway of Holiness

Oct 17, 2017 By Hephzibah Stephen

After reading through many oracles of doom against the nations, the 35th chapter of the book of Isaiah is a wonderful break! It talks about the restoration of the remnant and the future glory of Zion. The prophecy speaks about many natural miracles like the desert blossoming like the rose; the parched land becoming a pool of water and thirsty land, springs of water. It also talks about super natural miracles like the eyes of the blind being opened; the ears of the deaf being unstopped and the lame leaping like deer!

The same 35th chapter also talks about the Highway of Holiness on which the redeemed of Lord shall return to Zion. “And come to Zion with singing, with everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away”. (Is 35:10). It picturizes the complete restoration covering every aspect of life!

As I read through this beautiful picture of restoration, the attributes of the Highway of Holiness caught my attention. It is wonderful to note that the unclean and the unworthy will not walk over it. Only the redeemed will walk on this Highway of Holiness without fear of any wild beasts and inherit the above-mentioned blessings. The most beautiful attribute of this Highway of Holiness is the fact that even a fool will not go astray if he or she is on that Highway!

All of life is a journey and like fools, we trip and fall and wander in many directions and are severely bruised before we come to understand the love of our Lord and His provision for us. Even when we make a wrong choice, the Lord brings us back to the path leading to life. Once we get on this Highway of Holiness, if we are sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit in our hearts, then, we will not go astray. The Bible says in Ps 119:9, “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your Word.”

My friend, let us today choose this Highway of Holiness for ourselves and pray that our children and grandchildren would walk on this Highway from a very young age for there will be no beasts of prey and even a fool will not go astray!
