The Journey of Faith!

Feb 08, 2022 By Hephzibah Stephen

Faith, I believe, is a journey.

The beginning is in believing in God's character.  Abraham fully believed that God had the power to do what He had promised (Rom 4:20,21).  God is able;  God remembers us;  God has engraved us on the palms of His hands.  The end is standing firm in our faith, believing in God's promises, for all His promises are yea and amen in Christ Jesus.  God will do what He says;  God is not a liar;  God is faithful.  The Bible defines faith in Hebrews 11:1 as "... faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen".  Faith is not the ability to gaze long and far into the misty future.  It is simply taking God at His Word and taking the next step.  We seem to swing between extremes, going forward one day and backward the next day.  We exhibit moments of great faith and great discouragement, just like the prophet Elijah.  God knows our feeble frame, and that is why God expects faith as little as a mustard seed!  But our faith cannot be static, it must grow!  God of the Bible is infinitely wise in all His ways.  We, His creation, are finite and limited in our understanding.  Many times, we question His ways and more so His timing.  The gap between God's wisdom and our understanding makes our faith falter!

The Bible says in Eccl 3:11 that He will make everything beautiful in its time.  Lack of comprehension of the divine plan for our lives and lack of understanding regarding the divine timing make us falter in our journey of faith.  How can we keep our faith and inherit God's promises as we walk through life and its challenges?  The one word that comes to my mind is, 'Remember.'  God wanted the Israelites to 'remember' their deliverance from Egypt (Deuteronomy 5:15).  God wanted them to 'remember' how He had provided for them and protected them during the wilderness years.  Jesus wants us to 'remember' His sacrifice on the cross at the Lord's table until His return!

My friend,  let us walk ahead in this journey of faith, holding on to His promises, for we have a promise-keeping God.  Remember the blessings we have received in the past, remember the way God has provided for our needs even during times of scarcity, remember the peace God has given us amidst our trials.  Remembering God's goodness in our past is the only way we can move forward in this journey of faith!
