The Lord needs it…
Just before the triumphal entry into Jerusalem, when Jesus was close to Bethphage and Bethany, He sent two of His disciples into a village that was opposite to them with clear instructions to get a donkey's colt. The two disciples may have been Peter and John, for they were the ones whom Jesus later instructed to make the needed preparations for the Passover observance. (Matthew 26:17-19; Mark 14:12-16; Luke 22:7-13.) When the two disciples arrived in the village, everything proved to be just as Jesus had said. On one of the streets in the village, they found the colt tied near a door. When they untied the colt, bystanders (the "owners," according to Luke 19:33) asked why they were unleashing it. Then just as Jesus had instructed them, the disciples replied, "The Lord needs it." No objection was then raised, and the two disciples brought the colt to Jesus.
The Lord is the creator of the universe and everything in it. The Lord owns everything. The Bible says in Psalm 50:10, "For every beast of the forest is Mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills." Why did our Lord ‘need' the colt? Have you ever thought of that? When Jesus was born, He borrowed a manger. When Jesus was crucified, He borrowed a tomb. Throughout Bible history, the Lord has partnered with Man to complete His mission. The Lord commissioned prophets to speak for Him, and He chose not only kings but also ordinary people to accomplish His purpose. Even though the Lord has a host of angels to do His bidding, when Cornelius, a centurion of the Italian Regiment was praying, the instruction Cornelius received was, "Now send men to Joppa to bring back a man named Simon who is called Peter. He is lodging with Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea. He will tell you what you must do." (Acts 10:5,6). When Jesus went about all the cities and villages preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness, He was moved with compassion when He saw the multitudes. Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." (Matthew 9:37,38).
My friend, the Lord needs you and me today. The Lord needs you and me to live out the Gospel message. The Lord needs you and me to show the love of Christ to this hurting world. Are you ready?
