The Lord, who carried me!
In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses reminds the new generation of Israelites who are ready to enter Canaan about how God had helped them during the forty years they had wandered in the wilderness. He says, "… in the wilderness … the LORD, your God, carried you, just as a man carries his son, in all the way which you have walked until you came to this place(Deut 1:31)." It seems fathers carry their children on their shoulders so that the children can see things that even they cannot see! That is to say that the father desired his children to achieve greater heights than what he had made. It brought to my mind, my father, who used to carry me on his shoulders all the time when I was a little girl. Those were the days when there were no cars or scooters, and people had to walk or take a riksha to get to places!
Recently God enabled me to celebrate my birthday, and it was again an opportunity to remember God's goodness in my life one more time! The wilderness years of my life were allowed by God so that I can draw closer to Him and learn to trust Him alone. The years of famine have taught me to appreciate His provision and protection. The times I have stumbled and fallen have taught me to trust Him more and rest in His love. The times we have walked through the valley of shadow of death, have helped us as a family to appropriate God as our healer. Looking back, I can confidently say that the Lord has carried me just as He had promised, every day of my life until this day! God has blessed me abundantly even though I have not deserved any of it. If it had not been for the Lord, I could not have seen this day! It does not mean that the Lord has positively answered every single prayer of ours. It only means that He has filled our hearts with faith and hope that they will be answered in His time!
My friend, are you walking through a valley of tears or loss? Are you being put down by friends and family? Do not lose heart. Hold on to God, and He will lift you. God will answer you and bless you. Take heart for the Lord who carried me will carry you!
