The Power to Change!

Michael Jackson, in his song, 'The Man in the Mirror' sings as follows:

As I turn up the collar on my favourite winter coat.

This wind is blowing my mind.

I see the kids in the street, with not enough to eat.

Who am I to be blind, pretending not to see their needs.

I'm starting with the man in the mirror

I'm asking him to change his ways

And no message could've been any clearer

If they wanna make the world a better place

Take a look at yourself and then make a change

Michael Jackson got that part right, for sure!  Every change has to start from within us first.  Unless we change, we cannot change anything around us.  When we listen to powerful speakers, we always think that our husband must hear it or that our children should hear it.  We never think that message is for us!  Why?  We always believe that only the other person is at fault in any situation or relationship requiring change!  We seem perfect in our own eyes!

When Jesus said, 'the Kingdom of God is within you', Jesus meant the kingdom values resulting in kingdom living have to start in our hearts first.  It has to flow out from within us to make this world better.  By ourselves, we do not have the power to resist temptation and the ability to overcome our 'self.'  We may decide all we want, but we do not have the 'Power' to change.  The power that brought Jesus out of the grave is available to every believer so that we can have victory over sin and self!  The key that unlocks this power is the desire to change.  Many times we are very comfortable in our set ways.  We always blame it on our 'weaknesses'.  We quote the Bible and say that we have a High Priest who sympathizes with our weaknesses.  But Jesus does not want us to stay in our weaknesses.  That is why He has given us the Holy Spirit so that you and I can be overcomers!

My friend, what are you struggling with today?  Is it unwanted thoughts or anger, or is it a lack of self-control in some areas of life?  The Lord has not left us helpless.  He has made the power of resurrection available to every one of us. Do we desire to change?  That is the question we have to answer today.  We can only become agents of change and make this world a better place.
