The Relevance of Old Testament
Some people think that the Old Testament is not relevant for today and that only the New Testament is essential for the faith. As I was reading the book of Exodus, I found many chapters devoted to the construction wilderness Tabernacle. The Tabernacle was central to the relationship between God and His people. In Genesis, we saw sin separating Man from God and the lost fellowship. If God had nothing to teach us through it all, the Holy Spirit would not have included these details in the Bible, and that makes it an important topic as far as God is concerned.
On Mount Sinai, God gave Moses more than just the Ten Commandments. God gave a set of elaborate instructions for the building of a structure that would serve as a meeting place for God and His people. It was a tabernacle of worship involving specific protocols and procedures. In the Old Testament, God made way for forgiveness of sins and for man to approach God through an intricate sacrificial system. You can find every detail that Christ accomplished to restore our relationship with God in the particulars of the wilderness Tabernacle. Whatever has been written in the past (Old Testament) has been written for our instruction. "These things" also contain the blueprint for faith and stresses the importance of continuing in fellowship with God.
All of the Old Testament points to the Saviour in different ways. Just as the Israelites were liberated from bondage in Egypt, we are liberated from the bondage of sin. Through the Tabernacle, God dwelt among men then, and now the Holy Spirit dwells within every believer to correct us and empower us. Just as the people of Israel were expected to obey those instructions diligently, we are called to live obeying the Word of God. While God is love and full of mercy, do not forget that He is holy and just. He is also a consuming fire! The Bible says in Lev 11:44, "For I am the LORD your God. You shall, therefore, consecrate yourselves, and you shall be holy; for I am holy. "
My friend, read the Bible diligently and mindfully always expecting to hear God speak to you for the Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:16, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."
