The Third Dimension of Faith
Every believer is saved by faith. Ephesians 2:8 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith."This faith results in believing the perfect sacrifice of Jesus and exchanging our sins for the righteousness of God! This is the first dimension of faith. The Philippian jailer asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” and Paul and Silas told him “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” (Acts 16:30,31). This is the first dimension of faith.
There is another dimension to faith. It is something other than the saving aspect of faith. We say that we need faith to move the mountains in our lives. We say that we need faith to receive healing. This faith is also a gift to the believer in order that we might receive miracles. When the woman who had a flow of blood came from behind and touched the hem of His garment, she was made whole and Jesus said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” (Matthew 9:20-22). This is the second dimension of faith
There is yet another dimension to faith.
There are hundreds of promises in the Bible. If we have to benefit from them, we have to by faith appropriate them to our lives! The Bible says in Matthew 11:28, “Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”We take our burdens, hurts, and brokenness to the Lord, but we seldom enjoy His rest. Isaiah 43:18,19 says, “Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. … … ... I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” God speaks to us through His Word clearly not to dwell on the past but look to the future with hope. But very often, for every step we take forward, we slide two steps backward! It takes an enormous amount of faith to appropriate the promises from the Word so that we can enjoy true ‘rest’! This, I believe, is the third dimension of faith!
My friend, we easily put our trust in the Lord and get saved. We exercise faith to overcome obstacles and even enjoy healing. But when it comes to ‘casting’ our pain upon the Lord, we are unable to take God at His Word. Let us ask God to give us this faith so that we can truly enjoy His rest amidst the storms of life.
