The walls of Jericho
A friend of ours was struggling with a relationship problem between her son and her husband. I do not know how it all started but by the time the son came to the college, they were not on speaking terms. Any communication, if at all, had to be through his mother! It was a burden for her and so she fervently prayed for restoration. Many discouraged her saying since her son has already entered the college, restoration of that relationship would never happen. But she did not lose hope and prayed every day for restoration. When her son was in the second year of his Engineering, her husband met with a small road accident and broke his leg. After a short period of hospitalization, he had to rest and recoup at home. Her son started helping him and in a few days, the estrangement was gone! God works in mysterious ways! Now her husband is back on his feet and his son is his constant companion! God broke that wall between them.
We read about the fall of Jericho in Joshua chapter 6. After the fall of Jericho, Joshua pronounces a strange curse. Joshua charged them at that time, saying, "Cursed be the man before the LORD who rises up and builds this city Jericho; he shall lay its foundation with his firstborn, and with his youngest, he shall set up its gates" (Joshua 6:26). During the time of Ahab, Hiel of Bethel built Jericho. He laid its foundation and Abiram his firstborn died. When he set up its gates, his youngest son Segub died according to the word of the LORD which He had spoken through Joshua the son of Nun (1 Kings 16:34). In our life, many walls come up. It can be between the husband and wife! Sometimes it is between brothers and sisters! Whatever may be the wall we are struggling with, God at times miraculously demolishes them. We must recognize God's mighty hand at work and try our best to restore those relationships. At that time, we should not think of all the things that he or she had done earlier and not be willing for restoration!
My friend, what is the wall the Lord is breaking in your life today? Whatever it may be do not build up that wall again. Forget the past, forgive the person and strive to restore that relationship for that is the Lord's will for us! If we do not forgive and restore that relationship when God has demolished the wall, we will not be blessed.
