Traveling On My Knees
Some time back, I had the opportunity to read the poem, 'Traveling on my knees,' written by Sandra Goodwin on my friend's Facebook page. It is a beautiful poem where the poet wrote her response to Jesus when Jesus told her of the people in need in faraway lands. The call of Jesus truly challenged her.
Jesus, I can't go to lands across the seas.
He answered quickly, "Yes, you can by traveling on your knees."
And so I did; knelt in prayer, gave up some hours of ease,
And with the Savior by my side, I traveled on my knees!
This poem challenged me too. All of us cannot travel the seas across continents to pray for people in need, but we can travel on our knees! We can use the available technologies to meet people and continue to pray for each one with a burden. I believe this is a meaningful and practical suggestion that all of us can practice.
Prayer is a privilege. It is our privilege to approach our heavenly Father directly. We do not pray to any other being. Jesus taught us to talk to our heavenly Father just as we would with our earthly fathers! It is a great privilege to stand before the throne of God and intercede not only for our family and friends but also for our Nation! While Paul included many prayers for others in his epistles, Paul also asked for prayer several times. While Peter was in prison, the Church prayed to God for Peter's deliverance (Acts 12:3-19). After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored Job's fortunes (Job 42:10). Praying for each other is a vital aspect of a believer's life. The book of James says, "The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective" (James 5:16). When the Bible talks of a 'righteous' person, it never means a saintly person or a good person. It always means a person who is right with God, that is, made righteous by the blood of Jesus. Every believer can approach God with confidence.
My friend, praying for others pleases the heart of God. Can we commit to the Lord today and start praying for others earnestly?
The author goes on to say,
"Yes, Lord, I'll take the job. Your heart, I want to, please.
I'll heed Your call and swiftly go by traveling on my knees."
