Trust in the Lord
Bible Reading: Matthew 18:1–5
When our first granddaughter, Nivi, was about 2 years old, our son Sushil used to throw her high into the air and catch her. Whenever I watched, fear gripped me. But Nivi was full of laughter. There was not the slightest trace of anxiety on her face. Why? She trusted her father completely. She knew he would never let her fall—and he never did.
This Father's Day, that scene came back to my mind again and again. I began to ask myself, ‘Do I trust my heavenly Father with that kind of childlike trust?’
Jesus once placed a little child in the midst of His disciples and said, "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 18:3, NRSV). Surely, one thing He meant was childlike trust. Children do not spend sleepless nights worrying about tomorrow. They do not understand all the details of life, but they trust the loving arms that hold them.
As adults, we often want explanations. We want to know why God allows suffering, why prayers are delayed, and why the future seems uncertain. We want guarantees before we surrender. Yet our Heavenly Father asks us not to worry or be anxious about anything, but to trust Him.
Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight." God sees what we cannot see. He knows the end from the beginning. He never drops His children. His timing is perfect, His wisdom is infinite, and His love is everlasting.
Perhaps today you are anxious about your health, your children, finances, or an uncertain future. The Father who numbers the hairs on your head and clothes the lilies of the field is holding you securely. You may not understand His ways, but you can trust His heart, for His promises are yea and Amen in Christ Jesus.
My friend, this Father's Day, may we become like little children again—not childish, but childlike—resting in the loving arms of our perfect Heavenly Father. He has never failed His children, and He never will.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for engraving us in the palm of Your hands. Forgive us for the times we become anxious and trust our fears more than Your promises. Help us to trust You with childlike trust, for You are faithful, and You will never let us fall. Amen.
