Under His Wings!
My mother, Indrani Asirvatham, was a pianist. She also had a sweet soprano voice. During my college days, we used to choose songs with meaningful words from 'Songs and Solos,' and we used to learn to sing. We just sang by ourselves as the words ministered to our souls! This was one such song!
Under His wings, I am safely abiding;
Though the night deepens and tempests are wild,
Still, I can trust Him—I know He will keep me;
He has redeemed me, and I am His child.
Under His wings, under His wings,
Who from His love can sever?
Under His wings, my soul shall abide,
Safely abide forever.
We might live in a place that is undoubtedly the most glorious place in the world, a place of glorious safety, peace, and joy, where we can experience God's power, protection, and goodness. The Bible says, "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty" (Psalm 91:1). There's a place where you and I can live, in Christ Jesus. The question we must answer is whether we are living 'in Christ' now!
The safest place to live is 'under His wings.' The Bible says, "He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings, you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler" (Psalm 91:4). In the New Testament, in the book of Ephesians, we are asked to put on the whole armor of God. Here in the Old Testament, we find the armor of the Lord, His truth, as a shield and buckler, all under His wings. What a beautiful thought! The young chicks are safest under the wings of their mother hen! The mother hen will call them when she sees some danger around her young ones, and the secret of their safety depends on what the chicks do then. They will be safe only if they respond to that call and seek shelter under her wings! There lies our lesson today! God is calling us to turn to Him, to return to Him, and to walk closely with Him so that He can cover us with His wings! Are we ready to leave the passions and pursuits of this world and rest under His mighty wings?
My friend, the Lord Jesus never forces Himself on us. The decision is always ours, to be or not to be under His wings! Let us choose to be under His wings and make this year a year of blessing!
