When God Stepped Into Our Story
Bible Reading: John 1:1–14
Christmas is not a religious ritual. Christmas is not for a select few. Christmas is about Jesus entering the human story. Everyone has a story; some are beautiful, and some are broken. Christmas is God entering our story. The Bible says that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14).
Jesus did not stay in heaven to escape human suffering. Jesus, “who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:6-8).
Some of us have no friends or family members around us this Christmas. Some have lost a loved one and are feeling lonely. Some of us have been sick and unable to even go to Church. Whatever our situation may be, Jesus is walking into our situation today. He is our Emmanuel, God with us. He is our Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:7). Jesus speaks to us and encourages us even when we feel unseen, unheard, or disappointed.
The Bible says that Jesus is the light of the world and whoever follows Him will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life (John 8:12). Darkness is universal; loss, fear, guilt, and confusion are universal. Light, hope, direction, and healing are universal.
Jesus came to give us light; He came to give us hope, peace, and joy. He came to give us direction, guidance, and deliverance.
The question we have to answer today is, do we want Him and His light?
My friend, the choice is always ours. We can either accept Him or reject Him. May the Lord quicken our hearts to accept His help today. Wishing everyone a blessed Christmas.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, come into my life and be my guide forever. Amen.
