He will watch over you!
When I worked in Hindustan Teleprinters, I was deputed to London to attend a Networking training in August 1985. On June 23, 1985, Air India Flight 182 on the Montreal–London–Delhi–Bombay route was blown off the sky over the Atlantic Ocean due to a bomb blast killing all 329 people on board. This was the deadliest aviation terrorism at that time! I had never been on a flight until then, and I had to travel to London alone. On top of it, the Madras-Bombay flight was extremely bumpy. I felt the plane would drop out of the sky any minute! As I was waiting to board the London-bound flight in Bombay, I prayed, 'Lord, I cannot endure this kind of anxiety for nine hours. Calm my mind just like You calmed the sea!' The Lord not only calmed my mind, but He calmed the weather as well. There was no turbulence, and I had a peaceful flight!
When Hagar fled from her mistress into the desert, I do not know how she felt. But the Lord saw her. The Lord promised that God would greatly multiply her offspring (Gen 16:9,10). The Bible says Hagar called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, "You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees." When Isaac and Rebecca sent Jacob away to Padan Aram (Gen 28), I do not know how he felt. The way was lonely and long. And he had not travelled that way before. When the sunset, he took one of the stones and laid himself to sleep. The Lord appeared to him in a dream and promised to give him the land on which he lay. Sometimes when life takes us through uncertain paths or the unknown, we are beset with fears. When we take up new assignments or change jobs, we are apprehensive of what the future might hold. When we face sickness and hospitalization, we are anxious about how it will end. Remember, the Lord's eyes are always upon us wherever we may be. He watches over us just as He watched over Hagar and Jacob!
My friend, do not fear. While God does not reveal our future, He expects us to step out trusting Him. The Bible says, "Be strong and of good courage, … for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you" (Deut 31:6). The Lord Himself is watching over us!
