Nothing is Impossible with God!

At one time or another, we have all met someone who has been on fire for the Lord in the twenties but have fallen away from the faith later on. Some of us may have a person like that in our family itself.   There may be many reasons behind such falling away from the faith.  Sometimes, the hypocrisy and failures in the lives of those who appear to be righteous shake their faith.  Sometimes the death of the near and dear shakes their faith. Sometimes personal sickness drives them away from the faith.  Whatever may be the cause of their disillusionment, the sad reality is that they cannot see a loving God behind everything.  And it is heart-breaking to see them alienated from God.

Hebrews 6:4-6 is a problematic passage that people often quote to say that such people can never be redeemed.  "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance …" (Hebrews 6:4-6).  If you see the context, the writer to the Hebrews was encouraging his recipients not to dwell on elementary principles of Christ but go on to perfection.  The writer does not want them to waste time with such people because they may not reach them with their arguments and explanations.  But what is not possible with man is possible with God!  Our God is a God of second chances who does want even one of these little ones to perish (Matthew 18:14).  Since Jesus came  "… to seek and to save that which was lost" (Luke 19:10 ), we can be assured that even those who have experienced the love of Christ and gone away from the faith are not beyond God's saving grace!

My friend,  are you praying for someone dear to you to come back to faith. Do not give up.  All things are possible with God.  Continue to pray with hope, for the Bible says, " … faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." ( Hebrews 11:1).
