The Man used by God!

Bible Reading: Proverbs 3:1-10

Moses was a great leader.

He led the Israelites in the wilderness for forty years! Now, after the death of Moses, we see God talking to Joshua. The difficult task of conquering the promised land and dividing it among the tribes lay ahead, and God made Joshua the leader!

For many years, Joshua was content to be Moses' assistant. The Bible says, "…  his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle" (Exodus 33:11). The Bible calls Joshua the servant of Moses. Joshua did not know that God would make him the next leader, but he was faithful in the job assigned to him by God, as the servant of Moses! Joshua was prepared by faithful service in small things to become the successor of Moses!

All of us desire to be used by God, to be called upon by God for some special task. Some of us are not satisfied with where God has placed us. We think we are capable of greater things!

Seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, were chosen by the early church to take care of food distribution to the Greek widows. Stephen and Philip were part of this seven. They did not complain about why they had to take care of food distribution when they could preach very well!

Some of us are too big for God to use!

We are so full of our schemes and strategies that we do not listen to God. Some of us are plagued by an inferiority complex. We think we have to be talented to be used by God! But what God expects from us is faithfulness, for Jesus said, "Because thou hast always been faithful in little things, now I will make thee ruler over many" (Matthew 25:21).

The Rev. Alan Redpath tells of a lady who has a little motto over her kitchen sink that said, 'Divine service is conducted here three times daily.' Undoubtedly, great men and women are prepared by faithfulness in the small things!

My friend, are you available to be used by God? God has a plan, a purpose, and a place for us to serve Him. Unless the Lord finds us faithful where He has placed us, He will not lift us. The Lord takes time to train us so that He can use us effectively.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me never to complain but be faithful where You have placed me now so that you can use me according to Your plan and purpose. Amen.
