In the Shelter of the Most High!

Jul 13, 2021 By Hephzibah Stephen

The Coronavirus has forced us to walk on our terrace, where we have a garden.  We thank God for it because it is quite pleasant to walk among our trees on the terrace and the trees from our neighbor's garden!  We have a Moringa tree on our terrace.  It is a high-yielding tree.  As you may know, the Moringa trunk is of a fragile type. It cannot stand strong winds.  But our tree on our terrace has survived many cyclones over the years. Not even a single branch has been broken in all these years!  There is a secret behind it!  A huge Neem tree is leaning into our front yard from our neighbor's house, and it has spread its branches all around.  The Moringa tree is standing in the shelter of the Neem tree! As I walked among the trees, a great truth dawned in my heart!

We cannot avoid the storms of life.  No one is exempt from trials.  Where our hope is anchored during times of distress makes the difference between life and death to our life. Psalm 91:1 says, "Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty."  That is the place where you and I can live, a place of safety, a place of peace and joy, a place where we can experience God's power, His protection, and His goodness.  It is the most glorious place to live in all the world!  Those in the shelter of the most high find Him to be a refuge, a fortress, and a strong tower.  The Lord Jesus is the rock where we can safely rest even amidst the storms of life, for the Bible says, "He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings, you shall take refuge" (Psalm 91:4).

My friend,  if the Lord Jesus is not your Saviour yet, now is the time to accept Jesus as your Saviour.  The Coronavirus has taught us some lessons. It has shown us the uncertainty of life and the vanity of riches.  Money cannot bring anyone back to life.  Our refuge is only the Lord Jesus!

There is a place of comfort sweet, near to the heart of God,

A place where we our Savior meet, near to the heart of God.

O Jesus, blest Redeemer, sent from the heart of God,

Hold us, who wait before thee, near to the heart of God.
