Sun of Righteousness!

Nov 17, 2020

The Old Testament ends with a description of the day of the Lord, where those who have rejected God's gift of salvation will face a fiery judgment. But it does not end there! The Lord gives an encouraging word to the little remnant of believers, who fear His Name! The people of God who fear and reverence His name have the assurance that the Day of the Lord will be one that ushers in the sunshine of God's eternal love. The Bible says, "But to you who fear My name the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you shall go out and grow fat like stall-fed calves (Malachi 4:2)." They are likened to young calves who leap and skip with joy and free abandon.  Gracious forgiveness, joy, peace, and healing is t...

The Careless Worship

Nov 10, 2020

This final book of the Old Testament is about the error of forgetting the love of God. Malachi wrote these words to God's people, who had returned to Israel after being in exile for many years.  God told them that He loved them deeply (Malachi 1:2), but the people did not believe it.  The people failed to recognize the hardness of their hearts and their disobedience to the call of God.  The people did not accept the reality of their sin and faithlessness. The people did not understand that captivity was the result of their sin.  They audaciously said, "In what way have You loved us?"  Such an attitude resulted in careless worship.   The Bible tells us that they offered blind and lame ani...

The Call of Amos!

Nov 03, 2020

The prophetic books reveal the heart of God.  It shows us how humanity has disappointed the Lord, our Creator, and how the Lord tries to turn us back to Him continually.  God sent many prophets to teach, rebuke, correct, and train the people in the ways of the Lord. God used several means of disciplining the Israelites by sending drought, famine, crop diseases, locusts, plagues, and war, yet the people did not get the message (Amos 2:11). Sometimes the Lord reminded them of the mighty things He had done for them in their past.  Sometimes He tried to reinforce the idea of rewards for obedience by blessing them.  But the people of Israel and the people of Judah did not heed the warnings.  The people brok...

Praying for the Mighty!

Oct 27, 2020

India is an ancient land and has had many amazing kings.  The great Chola king, 'Manu Needhi' Cholan was known for the execution of justice.  He is known to have executed his son to provide justice to a cow!  King Paari, who ruled the Parambu nādu and surrounding region, was a known philanthropist.  He is known to have given his golden chariot to the wild jasmine creeper that had entwined itself around the wheel of his chariot. These kings had the welfare of their subjects and justice as the focus of their reign!  Those were the golden years!  If you see the things that are happening around us today, it does not resemble India at all. Now there is no justice even in the judiciary. People in p...

My Prayer

Oct 20, 2020

As I was reading 2 Chronicles during my quiet time, one incident caught my attention. King Hezekiah was one of the good kings of Judah. The Bible says about king Hezekiah in 2 Chronicles 31:20-21 as follows:  " … he did what was good and right and true before the LORD his God.  And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, in the law and in the commandment, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart. So he prospered."God also answered Hezekiah's prayer for an extension of life. The Bible says, "But Hezekiah did not repay according to the favor shown him, for his heart was lifted up….” (2 Chronicles 32:25).  Later, Hezekiah realized his mistake and humbled himself, and God sa...

The Prayer of Daniel

Oct 13, 2020

Daniel was a man of prayer.  He not only 'purposed in his heart' to keep his mind, body, and soul pure in the sight of God but was also a man given to prayer.  Even when Daniel knew that king Darius had signed the royal decree, he knelt and prayed as was his custom since the early days.  Daniel read the scriptures and based his thanksgiving and supplication based on the Scriptures. Even though Daniel himself lived according to the Scriptures, he confessed his nation's sins and prayed seeking God's mercy.  Daniel fasted and prayed.  The Bible says in Dan 9:23 that God answered his prayer "at the beginning of his supplications"itself!  We have a lot to learn fro...

The Little Foxes!

Oct 06, 2020

I have heard many sermons preached on the life of Daniel.  Daniel's life is a model for us in many ways. In the book of Daniel, angel Gabriel specifically told Daniel that he was "greatly beloved." It made me ponder about what made him so loved by God.  As I started reading the book of Daniel, one phrase stopped me in my tracks.  The Bible says in Daniel 1:8 that "Daniel purposed in his heart" that he would not defile himself with the king's delicacies.  Here was Daniel in Babylon, taken as a captive by Nebuchadnezzar as a young man. Even under such a trying predicament, "Daniel purposed in his heart not to defile himself,"  that means he had decided to obey God come wh...

In its Time!

Sep 30, 2020

The Lord gave me a promise in December of 2005 regarding the marriage of our eldest son Sushil.  The Lord said, “…I am the LORD; in its time I will do this swiftly.” (Isaiah 60:22b).  I took God at His Word and thought of one activity connected with the wedding that will take time and decided to start on the guest list.  According to His Word, God made it come to pass ‘swiftly.’  The Proposal came in June or July of 2006, and they were engaged on October 5th and married on January 5th the following year (2007).  It was the right time for Sushil, and according to His Word, God made everything beautiful in its time (Eccl 3:11).

Dip and Drink!

Sep 22, 2020

After a brief storm, a schooner was adrift in the Atlantic ocean off the coast of Brazil. And they were out of drinking water! What a joy it must have been for the sailors when one morning they sighted a big ship at a distance! The schooner's radio officer sent an S.O.S. to the ship asking for water! They were amazed at the message they received. The coded reply read 'dip and drink.' They did not understand that message at all. They had been out of drinking water for four days in the same waters, and now they are being asked to dip and drink! After many messages back and forth, they understood that they were in the region where the great river Amazon flowed into the Atlantic. The river's force is so strong that although tides reverse its flow, water c...

The Furnace of Affliction!

Sep 15, 2020

Along with its high infectivity and fatality rates, the Corona Virus Disease has caused universal psychosocial impact. The forced quarantine has produced acute panic, anxiety, and depression.  Many have committed suicide because of the stigma attached to it.  Some have died of heart attack as soon as they received the news that they were COVID positive. The major issue apart from the  dread, is the isolation and loneliness associated with the disease.  As soon as a patient is admitted to a hospital, the person is completely isolated from human contact, from family and friends which leads to depression.  Many are not able to handle such isolation!
